All living things possess spirits, yet humans stand as the supreme spirit among all creation.
All living things possess spirits, yet humans stand as the supreme spirit among all creation.

When it comes to
heretical superficial Buddhism, a reminder is necessary. Online abound stories
of animals blocking roads to save people and released creatures repaying
kindness by rescuing humans, invariably concluding that all things have
spirits. Such claims may mislead people.
Is it true that all
things have spirits? Absolutely, entirely correct. Spirits reside not only in
animals but also plants. Even stones and tiles, deemed inanimate, carry
spirits, albeit at a lower level.
How can this truth
mislead people? The answer lies in those tales of animal rescues.
Such incidents do
happen without doubt. Still, would spiritual creatures save people for no
reason? Rarely. Humans hold far greater spiritual power. Masters versed in the
I Ching and yin-yang principles can predict fortunes yet seldom intervene to
save others. Why? If misfortune is one's destined karmic retribution,
intervention violates heavenly secrets. Rescue never erases debts; unpaid dues
will eventually be settled, merely delaying the karmic outcome instead of
resolving it.
Even Buddha cannot
alter fixed karma, and wise sages never meddle with karmic cycles. How could an
animal dare defy heavenly laws and save people out of nowhere if it truly
possesses spirituality?
Animal rescues do occur
frequently, all governed by karma. Those saved are protected by their own past
virtuous deeds; ultimately, people redeem themselves.
Virtuous individuals
are guarded by benevolent deities that perceive past and future. Unable to
directly warn humans, these invisible guardians enlist tangible animals to
deliver alerts.
In essence, these
animals act on behalf of protective deities. Do not misdirect gratitude, nor
blindly worship animals as personal guardians.
Fundamentally,
one shall nurture kindness and wisdom, comprehend cosmic truths and laws, and
abide by natural rules. Render assistance to suffering animals when capable,
and refrain from excessive speculation.
