It’s Time for Traditional Literature to Reflect!

Traditional Literature Once, I only knew Literature was A Dream of Red Mansions by Cao Xueqin, The True Story of Ah Q by Lu Xun, Anna Karenina by Tolstoy, Don Quixote tilting at windmills, and The Good Soldier Švejk. I held aesthetics as the top priority, and thought that was the ultimate truth. Now, upon reflection, it seems there is room for debate. Picking the most beautiful fragment of life is like plucking a flower— though charming and delicate, it can only be cherished by the idle rich. It bustles within a small circle, yet has nothing to do with the general public. As for popular literature, it merely fools people into daydreaming, lacking any real substance. To claim it cultivates one’s moral character is almost an insult to readers. Just go and check— bookstores lined with world classics are often deserted, with not a soul in sight. When have they ever been as bustling as markets selling potatoes and cabbages? World classics cannot compare with potatoes and cabbages— this is no glory for literature. It’s high time for traditional literature to reflect!
