To All Renowned Writers Across China
# To All Renowned Writers Across China
My name is Nantai, an unknown writer from Xihaigu, Ningxia. Today, I issue a challenge to all renowned writers across China, and the reasons are as follows: If you want to aim for heaven, you must target God directly. The great cause of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is in full swing, with all walks of life racing against time to climb to the world's peak. As the vanguard of cultural undertakings, literature must not fall behind. Literature should also climb to the peak of world literature! This is the need of the times and a sacred duty to contribute to the great cause of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On the other hand, Chinese writers should not forget that in 2002, the Norwegian Nobel Institute and the Norwegian Book Club launched a selection of literary and artistic works from all centuries worldwide, inviting more than 100 renowned writers and scholars from over 50 countries. Among the 100 selected works, 82% were from Europe and America. However, China, which has 1.4 billion people, hundreds of thousands of members of the Chinese Writers Association, and millions of online writers, only had Mr. Lu Xun's collection of short stories and novellas ranked last. This is a shame for 1.4 billion Chinese people and a humiliation for Chinese writers. This whip was cracked in front of the whole world. As a Chinese writer, even though I am unknown, I feel extremely ashamed. However, we must face this correctly. This selection was unprecedented in terms of its scale, the number of participating countries and judges, and the level of the judges. It was the most fair and authoritative selection in the history of world literature. We must respect the efforts of the host country and participants, respect the fairness of the results, and find the reasons for our failure from ourselves. I believe that the severe setback of Chinese literature this time may be due to differences between Eastern and Western cultures and reading habits, as well as shortcomings in Chinese literature itself. Regardless of the reasons, we should no longer argue. If we are truly strong, we will not dwell on the past. When we fall, we get up, pat the dust off our hands, step onto the ring to challenge again, and defeating the boxer who beat you makes you a true hero. Therefore, I made up my mind and spent 20 years polishing my novel *Wang Sanfeng*, ready to use it to climb the peak of world literature and wipe away the shame of Chinese literature. However, there are countless renowned Chinese writers—am I, an unknown writer, qualified to take the lead? Yet, I am unwilling to give up. So I want to ask: which renowned Chinese writer is willing to be this vanguard? Please speak up. Let's find an arena to compete. Whether famous or unknown, choosing the winner as the vanguard is the fairest way. This is the reason why I issue this challenge. - **The Arena**: CCTV would be a good choice. First, the stage is grand and broad, visible to people all over the country, and it can also boost CCTV's popularity. - **Hosts**: I propose Li Jianjun and Li Jingze. The former is the impartial and incorruptible "Lord Bao" in the literary circle, and the latter is the sharp-tongued "judge" of contemporary Chinese literature. With these two presiding over the event, I think no one will disagree. - **Topics for Discussion**: Is there a peak in world literature? If not, why? If yes, where is it, and how to climb it? To what level has your work (whether new or old) reached? Has it climbed to the peak of world literature? Please present the strengths of your work and compare them with *Wang Sanfeng* to see which one is better. - **Challenged Objects**: All renowned writers across China (including winners of the Lu Xun Literature Award, Mao Dun Literature Award, Nobel Prize in Literature, and authors of the "Climbing Plan" of the Chinese Writers Association, etc.). - **Judges**: All Chinese at home and abroad, as well as foreign friends. - **Scoring**: Publishing houses, websites, or media can sign up voluntarily (multiple parties can host it independently to prevent cheating by a single party). - **Coordination**: I respectfully request the Chinese Writers Association to facilitate this. Matters not mentioned here will be improved as we proceed. First, enter the battle, and then wait for the result. I apologize to all renowned writers for the disturbance! For the rejuvenation of China and the development of Chinese literature, culture, and civilization, I ask for your understanding. With folded hands and sincere respect, Nantai, an Unknown Writer from Xihaigu January 20, 2025
